Engineering
Engineering covers a wide range of services we offer including
Electrical Engineering, Structural Engineering, and
Metallurgical/Chemical Analysis.
Electrical:
Electrical Engineering is very useful in fire scene examinations
because we are able to view artifacts in the original location and
have hands-on understanding of how they were installed and
applied.
Structural:
Structural Engineering is called upon to determine if, why, and
how a structure or a component failed. Was the failure due to
the manufacturing process, building/application process of a
component, or was it due to environmental conditions?
Inspections can be conducted to determine which components
were damaged and which were not, so the actual scope of the
loss can be established and potential repair steps can be
determined.
Product Liability Evaluation:
Visual examinations of artifacts found during a site analysis
may require additional laboratory examinations to determine if
the product failed due to a manufacturing defect, installation
error, or component failure. Depending on the circumstances,
destructive testing may be required to isolate the artifacts of
interest.
An electrical/mechanical device can be evaluated to determine if
manufacturing or design defects are present which may have
led to a failure. Inspection and an analysis are offered for all
equipment sizes including small household appliances up to
large commercial pieces. We work with you to provide the most
cost-effective services possible. For example, small items can
be shipped to our office for examination. However, sometimes
our engineers may need to perform preliminary inspections on
small and large items at the loss site.
